「2つの選択肢」について話すとき、Both, Either, Neither の使い分けは必須です。
しかし、「動詞は単数だっけ？複数だっけ？」「notと一緒に使っていいのはどっち？」と迷うことも多いはず。

この記事では、3つの単語の重要ルールを整理し、30問以上の演習問題で知識を完全に定着させます。

1. Both（両方とも）

意味： AとBの両方

ルール： 常に複数扱い

• Both A and B：AもBも両方
• Both of ...：～の両方

1. 選択 どちらの本も面白いです。
   Both books ( is / are ) interesting.

2. Either（どちらか一方）

意味： AかBのどちらか1つ

ルール： 原則として単数扱い

• Either A or B：AかBのどちらか（動詞はBに合わせる）
• not ... either：どちらも～ない（＝Neither）

【演習】Either を使いこなす（10問）

1. 選択 どちらの日でも大丈夫です。
   Either day ( is / are ) fine with me.

   「どちらか1日」なので単数扱いの is です。
2. 選択 あなたかトムのどちらかがそこへ行かなければなりません。

   Either A or B では、動詞に近い B (Tom) に合わせるため has です。
3. 語順 2つのリンゴのうち、どちらか好きな方を持って行っていいよ。

意味： AもBも～ない（全否定）

ルール： 原則として単数扱い。文中に not を入れない。

• Neither A nor B：AもBも～ない
• Neither of ...：～のどちらも～ない
